Queensland is set to experience showers with a strong wind warning in place from the Bureau of Meteorology for parts of the southeast today.
The Bureau’s Community information officer Daniel Hayes said the strong wind warning was for parts of the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.
“So around the coast is where it will be strongest and we are looking at seeing winds gusting around 60 to 70km an hour for the most part around those coastal areas,” Mr Hayes said.
“There could be some places where we might see gusts go up to and about 80km/h or so it will certainly be quite noticeable.”
Mr Hayes said the strong winds will ease after today to about 15-25km/h but that showers would continue from today until at least Wednesday next week.
“We’re currently dominated by a high-pressure ridge which is bringing quite a lot of shower activity and fairly windy conditions around the coast,” Mr Hayes said.
“The high that is generating that ridge is only going to move fairly slowly across the Tasman Sea so it’s going to be dominating our weather for at least through until the middle of next week.”
The southeast can expect showers today, with rainfall levels of about 10mm to 15mm but the north coast will see 30mm to 40mm.
Mr Hayes said temperatures throughout Queensland were surprisingly about 1-2 degrees above average but cloud coverage meant this would drop throughout the coming week by about a degree back to norms.
“We’ll see temperatures drop to close to average or maybe one or two degrees below average so we’re not talking large changes,” he said.
