LISA Origliasso has revealed her heartbreak after recently suffering an ectopic pregnancy.
The Veronicas’ singer gave a candid recount of her experience on Instagram, writing that a month ago her dreams had come true when she found she and her husband Logan Huffman were expecting.
“I had decided to do a pregnancy test because I was late,” Lisa wrote. “The test came back positive. I couldn’t quite believe it was happening … so I did 3 more tests. All positive. I was definitely pregnant.”
After the Queensland-based couple married late in 2018, they were overjoyed to be expecting their family to grow.
“We cried, laughed and held on to each other in pure excitement that we were going to be starting a great journey,” Lisa wrote.
She continued to write that the next two weeks the pair were thinking of baby names, but tragedy struck when she experienced irregular bleeding.
“My heart sank, & I knew something was wrong,” Lisa wrote.
“We immediately booked an appointment to see my doctor.”
She said the doctor was concerned about a possible Ectopic Pregnancy, which Lisa hadn’t heard of before.
Ectopic pregnancy is when the fertilised egg implants outside of the uterus – often in the fallopian tube and can be life threatening for the mother.
Lisa said blood results showed she was pregnant, but the ultrasound couldn’t find any sign of a baby. She was sent home with a “likely miscarriage” diagnosis.
The singer went on to explain a week later, results showed her pregnancy hormone level had tripled and the couple felt like there was hope.
“We booked in for a follow up ultrasound with a specialist to see what they would say,” she wrote.
“Hoping for some positive news, during the ultrasound we were told what we feared most. It was in fact, an ectopic pregnancy.
“I needed urgent medical attention to prevent it from becoming critical. I was immediately admitted to hospital.”
She went on to explain the heartbreak and was told she was one of the “really unlucky ones”.
“I cannot see that as truth. It’s been some of the darkest times of our lives yes, but it’s also been some of the happiest.
“The miracle of life is a fragile dance & sure, there’s a little bit of luck involved & hard truths along the way … but it’s how we choose to keep growing through those broken branches.”
Lisa said she and Logan wanted to share their story with the hope it will bring more awareness and support for families who face the same heartbreak,
“Inevitably, I know one day we will have a family. But it just wouldn’t feel right to share the good news in the future, without paying respect, love & bringing awareness to the heartbreaking journey so many woman and couples face everyday,” she said.
