A teenager is fighting for his life after his car was ripped apart when he crashed into a power pole in the Gold Coast hinterland last night.

Emergency services were called to Bonogin Road, near Tulipwood Drive, at about 1.20am Sunday after the 16-year-old boy’s car left the road and smashed into the pole.

Paramedics, including critical care and the High Acuity Response Unit, transported the teen, who was driving the car, in a critical condition with a head injury to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

His passenger - a 19-year-old woman - was also taken to hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.

Scores of emergency crews with flashing lights can be seen working at the wreckage in footage uploaded by Rob Lauret.

It shows large mangled parts of the car strewn across the road.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam or CCTV vision of the crash or the moments leading up to it, to come forward.

Another crash last night near Toowoomba saw an elderly couple and two men in their 20s taken to hospital after becoming trapped in their cars.

Two cars crashed just after 5pm on Anzac Ave and Old Wyreema Rd in Drayton, trapping a woman in her 80s, a man in his 70s and a man in his 20s in their cars.

Emergency services managed to remove the three patients and sent the elderly woman and younger man to hospital in serious conditions with head injuries.

The elderly man was also taken to hospital in a stable condition, as was another man in his 20s.
