Steven Miles and David Crisafulli in final leaders’ debate at Courier-Mail / Sky News People’s Forum

Tonight, Steven Miles and David Crisafulli will face off in the final leaders’ debate at the Sky News/The Courier-Mail People’s Forum. Here are four things to watch out for.

The Courier-Mail / Sky News People's Forum – the final leaders' debate of the election campaign.

Premier Steven Miles and Opposition Leader David Crisafulli will face off for the final leaders’ debate at the Sky News/The Courier-Mail People’s Forum today.

Sky News Australia chief news anchor Kieran Gilbert will host the one-hour forum from 6.30pm, live from Brisbane.

HOW YOU CAN WATCH

The Courier-Mail/Sky News People’s Forum will be livestreamed in the player above from 6.30pm.

HOW IT WILL WORK

The People’s Forum will provide undecided voters, as selected by YouGov, with the opportunity to put questions directly to the two leaders on their vision for the state as Queenslanders prepare to head to the polls.

Steven Miles and David Crisafulli will have a minute to provide opening statements, with the order determined by a toss of the coin. They will then face questions from an audience of undecided voters while also getting the opportunity to ask their opponent questions.

The leaders will have a minute for closing statements.

VOTE ON A WINNER

At the conclusion of the debate, Courier-Mail readers will have the chance to vote for who they think won the debate via an online poll added to the top of this story.

FOUR THINGS TO WATCH FOR

Last gasp

A long three-and-a-half week campaign is about to end and both leaders will use this debate as their final televised say to Queenslanders.

It’s been 1440 days since Mr Crisafulli became LNP leader and 312 days since Mr Miles was elevated to premier.

Tonight the leaders face real Queenslanders for possibly the last chance to speak directly to a large audience.

Message change

It’ll be interesting to see whether both men, in this tightening race, stick to their script or attempt a Hail Mary move.

Mr Crisafulli has relentlessly prosecuted crime while Mr Miles argues it is simply about who you trust.

Abortion is cutting through and, as we predicted, this race is tightening.

Keep an eye out for Mr Crisafulli to depart from crime and the three other “crises” and for Mr Miles to double down on trustworthiness.

Diversity

The beauty in taking questions from punters is the inability for politicians to give a political answer.

They happily frustrate the Parliamentary Press Gallery with non-answers, but shouldn’t dare try it on Brian from Bracken Ridge.

The audience might get tired of their focus on the past too and won’t take kindly to any obsession with Campbell Newman and Annastacia Palaszczuk.

The last gaffe

If you’re going to make a major gaffe, believe it or not this is probably the time.

Hundreds of thousands of Queenslanders have already cast their votes and many more have probably already made up their mind.

Both leaders are burning the candle at both ends and might be forgiven for dropping a clanger – depending on how bad it is.

Regardless, both are obviously aiming for a polished performance.
