One of Brisbane’s top private schools has confirmed another of its students has tested positive to COVID-19, with its principal describing the Delta outbreak as “worrying”.

Brisbane Girls Grammar School has recorded its second student to test positive, taking the school’s total number of cases to three.

A parent is amongh the school’s other two cases.

Neighbouring Brisbane Grammar School has also seen an additional case added to their cluster on Thursday, with another parent testing positive.

The school now has a total of 12 cases - eight students, two teachers and two parents.

“We now face the worrying fact that the Delta variant of COVID-19 is particularly transmissible amongst our children,” she said.

“That does, naturally, bring a different lens of concern for us all.

“The sheer size and scale of schools makes this situation inherently very complex.

“We will be closely monitoring, and following, the medical advice as it shifts to accommodate changing circumstances.”

Ms Euler said she hoped all in the community who had contracted the virus were being well cared for and supported.

She also said teachers were focused on educating and caring for the students, while they undertook mandatory 14-day home quarantine.

“The students have adjusted very well to remote learning with all of their usual energy and creativity,” she said.

Queensland on Thursday recorded 27 new cases of Covid-19, 16 of them as a result of community transmission and linked to the Delta schools outbreak.

Three of the cases are linked to Ironside State School, nine are household contacts of those cases, one is a teacher at Brisbane Grammar, two are students at Brisbane Grammar and one is a household contact of those students.

The other 11 cases were located on an LNG tanker off the Port of Gladstone.
