SIMONA ZAFIROVSKA

Convicted of murder, sentenced to life in prison.

Simona Zafirovska, a teaching student in the leafy western Brisbane suburb The Gap, brutally murdered her mum Radica in their family home.

At 7am on October 28, 2016 Zafirovska phoned triple-0 and told the operator she was hiding in her bedroom after hearing footsteps in her home.

Police arrived and found Radica dead in her bed, beaten with such ferocity that her brain was exposed.

Zafirovska told police during the investigation that intruders had broken into the home and killed Radica with a piece of floorboard she kept behind her bed for protection.

A piece of decking was found in Zafirovska’s room with blood that matched Radica’s DNA, but not Zafirovska’s.

Zafirovska was found guilty at a Brisbane Supreme Court trial.

During the trial the DNA evidence revealed Zafirovska was adopted – a fact she did not know until the investigation.

The court heard Zafirovska wanted to stay in Macedonia with her boyfriend but her mother told her she would not support her financially through her studies if she did not come home.

Zafirovska was sentenced to life in prison. She will be eligible for parole in 2036.

LINDY YVONNE WILLIAMS

Convicted or murder and interfering with a corpse, sentenced to life in prison

Lindy Yvonne Williams killer her partner George Gerbic, chopped off his head, hands and legs with an electric saw.

She dumped his body on the side of a road near Gympie and set it on fire before she embarked on a 10-month cover-up of what happened.

Williams was found guilty of murdering Mr Gerbic at Brisbane Supreme Court.

Her lawyer admitted at court to dumping his headless body on the side of the road and setting it alight. It took investigators 10 days to identify his body.

The exact cause of Mr Gerbic’s death is unknown. But the court heard Williams used an electric power saw, bought from Bunnings, to hack apart his corpse.

Williams claimed she acted in self-defence after Mr Gerbic attacked her with a knife. She claimed he slipped on a bool of her blood hit his head. She said she fled the house, returning a few days later to find him dead and his body dismembered.

After the killing Williams smeared Mr Gerbic’s character and lied to his family, including his parents, about what happened. Mr Gerbic’s father died before he could see justice done.

She told his family he was overseas and sent emails to friends and family from one of his email accounts claiming to be him.

Mr Gerbic’s head, hands and lower body have never been found.

Williams was sentenced to life in prison. She will be eligible for parole in 2034.

TRACEY WIGGINTON

Convicted of murder, sentenced to life in prison

Tracey Wigginton had told her friends she was a vampire. She had bought pig and cow blood from a butcher to drink. She persuaded one of her girlfriends to cut her wrists so she could suck her blood.

The night she brutally stabbed 47-year-old Edward Baldock to death she told her friends she needed to “feed”.

She seduced Mr Baldock after he had been drinking with mates at the Irish Club in the Brisbane city.

Wigginton convinced him to strip naked in Orleigh Park in West End and said she was going to go to the toilet and they would have sex when she returned.

She snuck up behind him, pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the neck. She stabbed him repeatedly in the neck and slashed his throat. When he was lying motionless on the ground Wigginton stabbed him again in the side to make sure he was dead and smoked a cigarette.

She threw the knife in the river and washed herself, dressed and returned to her friends.

But she left a bank card in a shoe at the scene.

Wigginton pleaded guilty at Brisbane Supreme Court to murdering Mr Baldock. She was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Wigginton was released from prison on parole in 2012.

STORM BROOKE

Convicted, sentenced to life in jail

In a sweltering summer’s day on January 7, 1990, in Brisbane’s now closed Boggo Road jail Storm Brooke took sharpened barbecue forks and viciously stabbed Debbie Dick to death.

The stabbing only stopped with prisoner Debbie Kilroy picked up a chair and hit Brooke with it. Brooke fled the scene as Dick lay dying on the jail floor.

It is the only killing inside a Queensland women’s jail.

Brooke eventually admitted to the murder. She spent a year in isolation in jail for the murder.

Brooke was sentenced to life in jail for Dick’s murder.

But in 1993, Brooke used a rope made out of knotted sheets to scale a wall and break out of prison.

She spent two months on the run before she was arrested on the Gold Coast.

In 2012 Brooke was living on the Gold Coast after being released on parole but was sent back to jail after attending a “Chopper and Hammer Show” at the Runaway Bay Tavern featuring notorious former criminal Mark “Chopper” Read and his bodyguard and best mate Mark “Hammer” Dixon.

But Brooke was banned from drinking or going to a licence premises as a condition of her bail. Her parole was revoked and she was returned to prison.

VALMAE FAYE BECK

Convicted and sentenced to life in jail

In 1987 Valmae Faye Beck and her husband Barrie Watts abducted, raped and murdered 12-year-old girl Sian Kingi.

Sian was taken to the Tinbeerwah forest, near Tewantin, where she was raped, strangled and stabbed.

Earlier in the day Watts had told Beck he had a fantasy to be a young girl’s first and last sexual partner. Beck agreed to help him in the task.

Beck stopped Sian in the street and asked if she could help find a missing poodle.

Watts grabbed the girl from behind. Her arms and mouth was taped shut and she was driven to the forest.

Beck watched on as Watts beat, raped and stabbed the girl.

In prison other inmates severely beat her, with one side of her face paralysed from the attacks.

In one attach two prisoners clubbed her with a jam jar in stuck in a sock.

Authorities moved her from a Brisbane prison to Townsville for her safety.

Beck, who changed her name to Faye Cramb, died in a Townsville hospital after heart surgery. Police were hoping she would confess on her death bed to a number of other crimes including murder. But Beck never woke from an induced coma.
