Qld housing crisis: Bardon rental ‘perfect for a garden shed’

Puzzled prospective tenants have questioned the value of a $350-a-week rental in Brisbane’s west with a striking resemblance to a children’s cubbyhouse.

Brisbane’s rental crisis has taken a grim turn, with what looks to be a converted shed in Bardon up for rent for $350 a week.

The unit is described as a “spacious,” unit with one bedroom, one bathroom and one garage, despite appearing to be a renovated shed.

The ad calls it a “charming abode” that has been “freshly updated” and would be the “perfect place to call home”.

“Your new home will be positioned in an extremely sought after blue-chip street surrounded by beautiful homes,” the advertisement read.

The listing has drawn the ire of social media with the Bardon rental striking a resemblance to a children’s cubby house.

Emily Mayo shared a link to the realestate.com.au listing earlier today on Twitter, with commenters questioning whether the Brisbane rental was actually a good deal.

“It’s a quaintly renovated shed,” Ms Mayo said.

“And all the references to schools and playgrounds is interesting – how could you live in this with children? Or are you meant to put one in there on their own?!”

Ms Mayo wasn’t the only one puzzled, with some Twitter users describing the advertisement as “depressing.”

“I love how they ended ‘including water‘ with an exclamation mark in an attempt to soften the blow,” one commenter said.

“Ad is very ‘upbeat’ about a shed,” another commenter added.

The description of the rental is technically correct as it is located close to schools and shops, however the “charming” rental appears to be in someone’s back yard.

Not all comments are negative though, with one person comparing the unit to life on a boat.

“As someone who lives on a 10m boat, I can tell you that looks like luxury. Even got a hot shower. Nice anchorage,” they said.

Despite flooding concerns and debates over whether cane toads would find themselves at home, commenters were at least happy water is included in the weekly rental fee.
