Qld high school locked down after reports of student with knife involved in brawl

A Queensland school has been locked down and several people were injured at after a fight broke out on the premises, with multiple claims a knife was pulled out.

Police responded to reports a knife had been pulled out but no knife was found upon arrival.

Several students and a teacher were injured in the incident. A girl in her early teens was taken to Emerald Hospital in a stable condition with facial injuries.

Three patients were assessed. Two teenagers, one male and one female with minor facial injuries.

A woman in her 30s was also assessed with minor facial injuries but they all declined transportation.

Police are investigating an assault in relation to an altercation between a number of people.

A Department of Education Spokeswoman said Emerald State High School went into a lockdown on February 20 in response to the incident.

“Emergency services attended to assist staff to safely manage the situation,” they said

“The lockdown was initiated at 10.50am and lifted at 12.30pm, when classes resumed as normal.”

The Spokeswoman said families of students directly involved were contacted immediately and have been offered support.

“Ongoing counselling and support services are available for those who require it,” they said.

“The department treats the safety and welfare of students and staff as its highest priority.”

It comes after a wild brawl outside Durack State School on Tuesday afternoon.
