The mine safety watchdog is investigating after an underground worker suffered serious crush injuries at a Central Queensland site.
BMA suspended operations at its Broadmeadow mine where the incident occurred.
A BMA spokesman said the worker had been underground when he was impacted by an object.
“Operations at the mine remain suspended and support is being provided to the individual’s family and colleagues,” the BMA spokesman said.
“We have notified Resources Safety and Health Queensland and will be assisting their investigation.”
RSHQ on Saturday confirmed inspectors would be attending the Red Hill Rd site.
Emergency crews were given a priority call to the mine about 11.20am on August 14 following reports of an underground crush injury to the torso.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the worker, a man, was taken to Moranbah Hospital.
It is understood the 32 year old was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
It’s also understood the injury is to the man’s right side.
He was flown from Moranbah to Mackay Base Hospital via BMA CQ Rescue chopper.
A Mackay Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman said he was currently in a stable condition.
An RSHQ spokeswoman said the regulator had been notified “of an incident resulting in crush injuries to a coal mine worker at Broadmeadow mine”.
“The worker is receiving medical treatment for their injuries,” she said.
“An investigation has been launched and RSHQ’s inspectors will be attending the site.
“Resources Safety and Health Queensland’s vision is zero serious harm in our resources sector.”
In January this year a worker died after suffering crush injuries at another BMA site.
Mackay man and racing enthusiast Luke O’Brien, 27, was fatally injured after being pinned between two vehicles in the fuel-bar area at Saraji mine at Dysart on January 15.
This latest incident also comes after a tragic two months in Qld mines where two workers died in separate incidents within three weeks at Byerwen mine at Glenden.
On August 22 Bundaberg grandfather John Linwood died when the light vehicle he was driving and a large haul truck collided at the open cut mine about 1pm.
The 56-year-old Macmahon contractor was the only occupant in the vehicle when the tragedy occurred.
The loaded haul truck had been ascending the ramp leading out of the pit at low speed when the light vehicle approached from behind and ran into the rear of the larger vehicle and became wedged underneath.
Mr Linwood tragically died at the scene.
Investigations are ongoing into how the incident occurred and the mine was initially closed however operations have since resumed.
Barely three weeks earlier, long-term worker Chris Schloss lost his life on August 3.
He suffered fatal injuries after he was struck by a crane.
