$66k pay rise in a year: Eye-watering salaries of Qld’s elite school principals revealed
The massive salaries of Queensland’s elite school principals can be revealed, with the majority receiving pay packets worth more than Prime Minister Anthony Albanese - one even getting a $66,000 pay rise in year.

The eye-watering salaries of Queensland’s eight grammar school leaders can be revealed, with the majority receiving pay packets worth more than Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The salaries were revealed in a Courier-Mail analysis of the 2022 annual reports which were tabled this week through Queensland Parliament.
Ipswich Grammar School headmaster Richard Morrison’s total renumeration package increased by $66,000 to sit at a cool $601,000 - making him Queensland’s highest paid.
He takes top spot from Brisbane Girls Grammar School principal Jacinda Euler, who was the highest paid school leader in 2021, with a total remuneration package of $578,893.
Six out of the eight school leaders had larger 2022 pay packets than the Prime Minister, who started on an annual income of $549,250 following his election last year.
Ipswich Girls Grammar School had the highest pay increase of the eight schools, with a spike of $115,000. Dr Marie Perry commenced her position at the school this year.
The salaries of all eight grammar school leaders are below:
Brisbane Grammar School
Anthony Micallef is the 12th BGS headmaster, having started in 2014. He is a graduate of the University of Sydney and previously completed a sabbatical at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Jacinda Euler took over in 2013. She previously taught at Girls Grammar (2000-2007), and held senior positions in Sydney’ Pymble Ladies College and SCECGS Redlands.

Ipswich Grammar School
Richard Morrison started as 16th headmaster and CEO in 2016. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the education industry, including work in Abu Dhabi and the Middle East. He previously held senior roles at Brisbane State High School and Education Queensland.

Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School
Dr Marie Perry, a highly-regarded educator with more than 30 years’ experience, only started as principal in January 2023, replacing Dr Peter Britton who had been in the role for 12 years.

Dr John Kinniburgh is a qualified chartered geographer and obtained a PhD in education from Macquarie University. He is a former deputy headmaster at Prince Alfred College in Adelaide.

Tim Kelly has been Townsville’s headmaster since 2018, replacing Richard Fairley who retired. He had previously been a deputy headmaster of Toowoomba Grammar School.

Dr Phillip Moulds has been headmaster for more than a decade. Prior to this, he held various positions at Brisbane Grammar School during an 18-year tenure, including deputy headmaster.

Rockhampton Girls’ Grammar School
Kara Krehlik was appointed permanent principal at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School in November 2021, after serving as deputy. She began her teaching career in Cloncurry in 2007 and has later worked at a number of regional Queensland schools.
