A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing in Brisbane’s southwest that left another man fighting for life.
Emergency services were called to reports of a wounding at an Inala home early on Monday morning, with a man taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.
The alleged stabber was arrested soon after in a nearby street, with police claiming to have found a knife on him.
Duc Minh Doan’s matter was briefly mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old Forest Lake man made no application for bail and was remanded to appear via video link at Richland Magistrates Court on June 17.
According to court documents Doan, who works as a chicken boner, is accused of attempting to murder Thanh Minh Tran.
The wounded man had injuries to his abdomen and limbs and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Police will allege the men were known to each other.
A crime scene was established around a property at Bellbird St, Inala where the alleged stabbing took place.
A neighbour told The Courier-Mail he woke up to a large police presence in the street.
“I just looked out the window because the dog was barking and I’ve seen a police car and an ambulance,” he said.
“Then I saw heaps of police turn up.
“It is the first time I’ve ever seen anything like this happen in this street.”
Sally Walker and her partner were on the veranda of their home when they saw a man wearing a mask enter their neighbour’s property.
“We heard bloodcurdling screams, lots of banging, and then shortly after that we witnessed a man just walk out on the street and walk away,” Ms Walker said.
“The screams alone were really terrifying, what I heard was terrifying.”
Ms Walker made a phone call to police.
“As soon as we heard the screams and the kids screams, we knew it was serious,” she said.
“My partner was like get inside right now, because we didn’t know the situation.
Ms Walker said the incident was “awful”. “It’s happened so close to home,” she said.
“Why would someone do that when they had kids in the house, it’s just heartbreaking.
“They are quite a large family, but they’re a beautiful family, and they keep to their own, I am feeling for them.”
There is no ongoing threat to public safety.
