Major holiday traffic delays on Bruce Highway and Pacific Motorway out of Brisbane

Traffic is slowly returning to normal after motorists in the southeast faced major delays on Friday afternoon.

Motorists in South East Queensland faced major delays on Friday afternoon, with traffic banked up on major highways out of Brisbane.

Traffic was banked up on the Bruce Highway for more than 50km from Griffin to Gagalba heading to the Sunshine Coast, with reports emerging of motorists taking an hour to get from Brisbane to Caboolture.
Motorists have described the Bruce Highway as a “parking lot” with traffic reportedly at a crawl, moving at 5km/h.

By 5 pm, delays along the Bruce Highway had reduced to 15 minutes between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Meanwhile, congestion had cleared in both directions of the Pacific Motorway from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.

Earlier, traffic stretched over 22km on the Pacific Motorway from Yatala to Helensvale heading to the Gold Coast.

There were also reports of traffic being blocked 20km south of Tiaro.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads issued several congestion alerts for the Sunshine State’s biggest highways on Friday afternoon.

Four congestion warnings were issued for the Bruce Highway in Tiaro, Narangba, Beerburrum, and Murrumba Downs.

Closer to the Brisbane region, a warning had been issued for the highway travelling through Caboolture and Burpengary East.

At 2:50 pm, there was a 50-minute delay northbound from Brisbane into the Sunshine Coast region.

Two congestion alerts were issued for both the Pacific Motorway and the Sunshine Motorway.

At 2:50 pm, there was a 20-minute delay travelling southbound from Brisbane into the Gold Coast via the Pacific Motorway.
