Olympian Lisa Curry has opened up about the loss of her daughter Jaimi on the first anniversary of her death.
In an emotional Instagram post she wrote: “I would never have thought my life would be like it is now.
“Today, 1 year ago, we lost our treasured first born, our blue eyed, chatty Jaimi.
“That gut wrenching, heart breaking moment where we had to say goodbye.”
She said she and ex-husband Grant Kenny “feel broken”.
“I’ve lost myself. But each day I try to continue on, one step at a time to get things done, to continue being a mother, a grannie, a wife, a friend, a business owner … at times distracting myself so much that I can’t think of anything … but then the quiet times come and everything comes flooding back, every feeling, every memory and I feel like I’m drowning in the pain … and I just can’t … do anything.”
She said there are times she does feel OK, but she is still grieving Jaimi’s loss every day.
“But each day there are times when it’s OK … for a little while and I guess those little times will eventually get a little longer,” she wrote.
Curry then recalled the moment Jaimi died, and her family was with her.
“Today, at 7.10am, as she took her last breath a year ago, we honoured Jaimi by being at her favourite beach to lay flowers into the ocean. I hope that wherever she is – above, or at arm’s length in spirit energy she can still see and feel the love.
“Remembering you always our beautiful girl.
“Still feels like yesterday.
“Love from all of us. #rememberingjaimi #ourbeautifulangel #foreveryoung”
Her Instagram post comes after her son Jett Kenny revealed what Jaimi’s final hours were like.
“I could tell something was wrong,” Jett told The Courier-Mail’s Q Weekend, when he spoke for the first time about her death.
“We ended up all at the hospital and that was the last time I saw her,” Jett said. “She fought all the way until the end.
“They took her off life support and eight hours I think she was off life support for until she finally passed away; the doctors thought it was going to be about a minute or two, so she was a fighter, that’s for sure.
“She originally got told she may not make it to 30, and she got to 33 so she battled on with it for a long time and it was much longer than that beforehand.”
