A classmate’s heartfelt TikTok has gone viral in memory of a brave 15-year-old Noosa girl, stating the teen was trying to save her mother who had a shock seizure behind the wheel.
Leoni Batovas, 15, of Sunshine Beach, has been remembered for her “beautiful soul” following a fatal crash understood to have been caused by her mother having a seizure behind the wheel.
On February 28, about 6.50pm, Penny Batovas, 48, and her 15-year-old and 17-year-old daughters, all from Peregian Beach, were travelling in a BMW X5 when it rolled on Edwards St, at Sunshine Beach.
Leoni, 15, died at the scene.
Her 17-year-old sister was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment while their mother Mrs Batovas, who was driving the car, was taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
That night the crash caused delays for several hours and a diversion was in place for traffic heading north along Edwards St and David Low Way towards Noosa Heads.
The Forensic Crash Unit was investigating the crash.
Queensland Police have been contacted for further comment and an update regarding the investigation.
In the wake of Leoni’s tragic death, one of her classmates from St Andrew’s Anglican College posted a heart-wrenching tribute on social media.
The TikTok video has since gone viral with more than 20k views.
“Dear Leoni … Since day one I have always loved you and always seen you as more than anything,” the tribute read.
“But I never thought there would be an end to this. God took you too early from us so young and so full of love and life.
“Those classes in Year 9 are forever memories in our hearts and we will cherish those forever in a time capsule.
“My beautiful girl, this world is too cruel and shouldn’t have taken you way too young.
“You are so pure, innocent, gorgeous, smart, caring, and desirable.
“My love if only there was a way I could look at you one last time. I will look for you in every sunset, ocean, animal, lily, and hibiscus flower.
“My love we will remember you forever in our hearts and prayers.
“Our grade will not be the same without you because we loved you so deeply.
“Fly high my girl and I will look for you in every sunset.”
The emotional TikTok post and caption had more than 1k likes and 100-plus comments.
Comments on the post stated that Leoni was killed trying to save her mum.
“Her mum had a seizure in the car unfortunately … she unbuckled her seat belt and the car tipped over which made her so tragically pass away,” a comment stated.
“She was killed in a car crash at Sunshine Beach on Friday, she died trying to save her mum.
“She will fly high and make the earth even more beautiful.
“Always and forever missed but never forgotten.”
