STEFFANIE Rickards-Hanson, 23, from Hamilton is searching for work in the retail industry and says securing a job is a “daunting experience” and can really “knock your confidence”.

“There is work out there but a lot of employers want people with specific experience,” she said.

“There should be more support from the government to encourage businesses to employ young people with less experience.”

After working in sales and charity, Ms Rickards-Hanson said she would ultimately love a job working with animals but isn’t picky.

“I would love to work at an animal refuge to find animals homes, that’s my dream job, but I would also really like to work in some capacity in the retail industry,” Ms Rickards-Hanson said.
