Dingo bites woman at Lake McKenzie, K’gari

Investigations are under way after a woman was bitten while walking with a group at a popular tourism spot on the heritage island.

Investigations are under way after a woman was bitten on the leg by a dingo at Lake McKenzie on K’gari.

The Environment Department said the woman was bitten on the leg while walking with several other people in the unfenced lake area about 5.30am Monday.

Other members of the group used walking poles to try and move the dingo on following the attack, a DES spokesman said.

Investigations are underway after a woman was bitten on the leg by a dingo at Lake McKenzie on K’gari.

They said initial reports were the untagged female dingo was aggressive, growling, barking, jumping, lunging and attempting to bite at the walking poles.

Rangers have increased patrols in the area and are attempting to identify the dingo involved.

The attack comes less than two months after a four-year-old girl was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital after being bitten by a dingo at Orchid Beach.

At the start of October, the department made another plea for drivers on the island to slow down after a dingo was struck and killed by a vehicle.

Visitors to the island are being reminded to take precautions when visiting K’gari, including staying within arm’s reach of children, always walking in groups and carrying a stick, never feeding dingoes, camping in fenced areas, and not running or jogging.
