Crowd-funding with a twist: Comedian Nikki Osborne reveals how she raised $10,000 on first day on Only Fans

Tapping into the rising popularity of Only Fans, Queensland comedian Nikki Osborne created an account for a unique purpose – and raised $10,000 on the first day.

Following the rising popularity of Only Fans, Queensland comedian Nikki Osborne decided to leverage the subscription service by using it as a crowd-funding platform for charity.

After launching the Only Fans account last week under her alter ego Bush Barbie, the Sunshine Coast-based comedian raised $10,000 within the first day, with all proceeds from the account dedicated to saving koalas in the Northern Rivers.

“I think it’s the new form of crowd-funding,” Osborne said of Only Fans, which is typically known for its adult content.

“‘Bushie’ has been a massive fan of Steve Irwin since forever, and after the floods in the Northern Rivers, I saw an Instagram story of these women desperately relocating koalas because they were being poisoned by toxic floodwater on their leaves.

“The insurance companies have the people’s, back but nobody seemed to pipe up about the impact on wildlife.”

She added: “I want to make sure the money goes to a hands-on charity – people who are literally climbing trees.

“I don’t want to waste my rig on a charity that burns the dough in administration and fancy shindigs.”

As well as her work as a comedian, Osborne is an actor and presenter, having starred in Channel 7 series Hoges, and appeared on Channel 10’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!

With a goal to raise $50,000 in the first week, Osborne admitted she’d had some interesting requests, including nude photos and being offered $1000 to watch a particular sexual act.

“I’m a comedian,” she said.

“It’s all meant to be funny for a good cause. It’s not like I’ve gone on MAFS to launch a career in porn – but good on them,” she joked.

“What’s funny is koalas have a chlamydia problem so it’s kind of poetic to raise funds via Only Fans.”

She plans to hand over a cheque to her chosen charity on July 17 at 8pm.
