A Queensland man who was accused of killing a little girl after she was left in a hot car has had the charge against him quietly dropped.
Rylee Rose Black, 3, died in 2020 after she was left in her mother’s car in the driveway of her Townsville home on a hot November day.
Rylee was found unresponsive in her car seat in the back of the four-wheel-drive but could not be saved.
Her mother, Laura Peverill, pleaded guilty to her manslaughter in 2023 and was sentenced to seven years’ jail.
But she will be eligible for parole from Thursday after serving less than two years behind bars.
Peverill’s then boyfriend Aaron Hill was also charged with manslaughter and was committed to stand trial over the offence in 2023 after pleading not guilty.
But The Courier-Mail can reveal the charges have been dropped.
A Queensland Supreme Court spokeswoman confirmed Justice David North declared his charge nolle prosequi – where the prosecution discontinue an offence – in Townsville Supreme Court.
Peverill left Rylee the back seat of her car parked in a sunny driveway while she watched television for hours with Mr Hill.
During her sentence, the court was told Peverill only realised Rylee was still in the car when they left for school pick-up at 2.30pm.
Rylee had been left in the car for more than five hours. The temperature inside the car reached up to 51.1 degrees.
