Channel 7’s Kendall Gilding admits she really hates running, but there is one thing that will get her to the course for Bridge to Brisbane.

Kendall Gilding is the first to admit she hates running but the Channel 7 News anchor will pound the pavement regardless at the Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane knowing each step will help feed families in need.

After tackling the 4.5km course while heavily pregnant with son Moses last year, Gilding is looking forward to returning in two weeks with her 12-month-old son, this time in a pram, while raising money for Foodbank Queensland.

“Food insecurity has never been higher for Queensland families, due to the cost of living,” Gilding said.

“Food is often the first thing parents will go without, to keep the lights on, and a roof over their head.

“You may not realise the person living next door to you is going without dinner every night.

“Foodbank supports countless local charities with free or heavily discounted produce to meet those needs.”

Gilding will be joined by Channel 7 colleagues in fundraising for Foodbank Qld, including Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta who will take on the 10km course.

Since 2021, more than $85,000 has been raised for Foodbank Qld through the annual running event, equating to over 170,000 meals.

“Every hour, through our member charities, Foodbank provides a staggering 3000 meals,” the charity’s CEO Jess Watkinson said.

“This food supports more than 150,000 Queenslanders in need each week, but sadly, demand still outweighs supply.”

This year, the charity aims to raise $70,000 to help provide an additional 140,000 meals to families in need.

“Currently, we have 594 participants running for Foodbank Queensland in Bridge to Brisbane this year and are hoping to hit 1,000 by race day,” Watkinson said.

Currently Foodbank Qld’s top fundraising team is the IncrEDIBLES, created by a partnership between CHUBB Insurance and Barry Nilsson, who have raised $68,000 since 2019.
