A Brisbane courtroom was filled with emotional scenes this morning as the family of a horror fatal bus crash victim heard that the driver would be taking his criminal charge to trial.

Lindsay Francis Selby, 71, was charged with driving without due care and attention causing death last June over the March 8, 2024, bus crash that killed Ms Cameron, 18.

It’s alleged Ms Cameron was pinned against the Anzac Square arcade building in Brisbane City after the council bus driven by Selby mounted the footpath just after 5pm.

Selby made no appearance at a Brisbane Magistrates Court mention on Wednesday, but was represented by lawyer Claire McGee.

Ms Cameron’s family audibly broke into tears as Ms McGee told the court Mr Selby intended to take his charge to trial.

Whispers of “oh my god” and a sarcastic “happy birthday” could be heard from the family, who did not speak to media outside court.

Magistrate Peter Saggers set the matter down for trial in Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 23.

Ms McGee said barrister Saul Holt was briefed for the trial, which she said would likely take just the one day.

She asked for a direction to be made requiring any remaining material to be disclosed to the defence.

“We have some material - the arresting officer’s statement and the report,” she said.

“I don’t expect there will be much more, but if there is to be, a direction should be made for that to be disclosed.

“… I think we have mostly everything… there may not be anything else.”

The matter was listed for a trial review on September 2 to ensure all relevant material had been disclosed to the defence.

Selby remains on bail.
