Brisbane is set to host a new limited-run concert experience this spring, with the launch of Night at the Parkland, a week-long, open-air music series taking over Roma Street Parkland this September as part of Brisbane Festival.
For seven nights only, the park’s iconic amphitheatre will be transformed into a fully staged live music venue, produced by the award-winning team behind Sydney’s sellout success, Night at the Barracks, Brendan Maher and Cameron Coghlan.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to build on the incredible success in Manly and bring the magic to Brisbane! Pairing a stunning, iconic venue with world-class artists and a premium experience — we can’t wait,” Mr Coghlan said.
“We love the warmer climates of Brisbane … once we found that iconic venue, it was sort of an easy one for us to then start planning on it.”
Running from September 5 to 14, the inaugural season will showcase a star-studded line-up of Australian acts, including ICEHOUSE, Lime Cordiale, Amy Shark, Xavier Rudd, Grinspoon, Cut Copy and James Johnston.
“It’s a concert that celebrates Aussie music and people can come and just really enjoy it,” Coghlan said.
“We want locals to be proud of Parkland, and bring a really premium experience to the space.”
The series is designed for music lovers who want a relaxed, high-quality experience rather than a typical festival crowd.
“We want people to walk in and … initially just be wowed by the space — so that the park looks beautiful, the bars where you’re not going to have huge queues … it’s an elevated experience” he said.
“All those little touchpoints … we want to make sure people walk away and go, ‘Oh, how good was that?’”.
In addition to its production values, Night at the Parkland also boasts a strong environmental focus.
“No plastics on site, working … to offset power emissions and making sure that we are as conscious of our impact on the environment where we can be,” Coghlan said.
“We’ve taken out zip ties on most of our signage … use reusable ones … just little things that … help us be better.”
Heralding it as one of the Festival’s most exciting new additions, Brisbane Festival artistic director Louise Bezzina said: “Brisbane deserves world-class music experiences in extraordinary settings, and Night at the Parkland delivers just that … It’s going to be seven unforgettable nights under the stars.”
Tickets go on sale at 9am on May 27 via nightattheparkland.com.au.
