Cricket commentator Michael Slater and his partner, Melanie Livesey, have listed in Randwick.
There are $4.7 million hopes for the mid-1990s modernist property.
Goodyer Real Estate agent Pauline Goodyer has the four-bedroom, single-level home scheduled for August 21 auction, with the likelihood it will be held online should it not sell beforehand.
There were 1000 views in its first 24 hours on realestate.com.au, with Goodyer conducting one-on-one inspections with would-be buyers during the lockdown.
The couple briefly sought to sell just as the pandemic disrupted the Sydney real estate market last year.
Set on 600sqm, the cul-de-sac home has a resort-style heated pool and cabana. There is a possibility of a second floor, which would have city views.
They are apparently keen to undertake a coastal building project.
Randwick’s median house price sits at $2,825,000, having seen a compound growth rate of 8 per cent over the past five years.
The property replaced Slater’s long-time Newport home.
The right-handed batsman played in 74 Test matches and 42 One Day Internationals for Australia.
Following his 2004 retirement, he has had a high-profile career in the media.
His fellow Channel 7 sports presenter Mel McLaughlin has also been busy on the property front. Her Cremorne apartment sold for $2.15 million earlier this month, having struggled to sell last year.
CAPO LISTS CLOVELLY HOME
Former Olympic sprinter Dean Capobianco and his wife Julie are selling their Clovelly home.
Capobianco, now a tech industry veteran, who represented Australia in the 200m at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympics, bought the home for $1.46 million in 2009, upsizing from a $1 million Darling Point apartment.
A year later they spent $200,000 extending the Clovelly Rd home deeper on the 375sqm block.
The 1930s-built home has four bedrooms at the front of the house, and an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area opening to the terrace. There is rear parking for two cars.
The Agency’s Bethwyn Richards has a $4.5 million guide for the freshest of Clovelly’s five house listings.
Earlier this year Capobianco was appointed the chief executive of the geospatial data company Geoscape Australia.
It is a provider of national location data, backed by the governments of Australia, that monitors the built environment. Its data covers 15.7 million buildings with a roof area at least 9sqm across Australia, plus pools and solar footprints.
His professional career kicked off in marketing at News Limited, then he worked at Yahoo and Ninemsn.
Capobianco’s personal best for the 200m was 20.18s in 1993, and he did run sub-10 seconds in the 100m, but via unofficial hand-timing.
KILLARA RECORD SET TO TUMBLE
Killara has been a very active market amid Sydney’s mild winter.
The highlight was this week’s whisper-quiet record price. There’s been no price reveal, but a bullish $16 million-plus was being sought through Knight Frank Prestige Residential agent Adam Ross.
Nothing had challenged Killara’s record price since 2012 with its nearby $11.5 million sale by tech entrepreneur pioneer Daniel Petre to Anita Cunliffe, wife of Guy Fowler, the former UBS managing director who is now the Barrenjoey Capital executive chair.
The longtime record holder, Deepdene, was a 5533sqm heritage-listed estate with an expanded 1920s bungalow-style house.
This week’s sale at 31 Springdale Rd was a six-bedroom, six-bathroom home, just three doors away on Springdale Rd, which was marketed as one of the north shore’s most impressive contemporary estates.
It has a resort-style feel, on a 2460sqm block, with Peter Fudge garden rooms plus tennis court and pavilion, wet edge pool and cabana. There is also a sunken lounge, plus fireplace and outdoor TV.
Newent, the 1903 Arts and Crafts Federation home on a 3048sqm Springdale Rd holding, had been the highest sale in the interim at $11 million last November, when offered through Ray White for the first time in 85 years.
Just how long the record holds will be interesting as Black Diamondz Property has put an $18 million asking price on its Stanhope Rd seven-bedroom, seven-bathroom offering with strong Versace-style interior decor.
Killara was ranked fourth in the 2020 national top 10 of strongest price growth suburbs, and that came without any overseas migration.
The suburb has also seen an all-white 1940s, International-style listing sell through Di Jones North Shore agent David Howe for $2.97 million.
Designed by architectural pioneer Sydney Ancher on Maytone Ave, the cube-style Hamill House sold in just 13 days, denying architectural aficionados the chance to inspect.
The home on 765sqm had last traded in 2005 for $940,000.
Along with Arthur Baldwinson, Robin Boyd, Sir Roy Grounds and Harry Seidler, Ancher pioneered modern domestic architecture.
MALOUFS SETTLE
The first of the recent acquisitions by the Malouf family came through this week.
It was a $26 million Double Bay harbourfront, bought from rag traders Jonathon and Jill Ind by Larissa Malouf, the wife of yacht broker Ian.
They have reputedly also bought the adjoining Castra Pl harbourfront for $30 million-plus from Leigh and Nick Pongrass, through Pillinger’s Brad Pillinger.
The Maloufs’ $60 million purchase of the ANZ tower penthouse in Sydney’s CBD — bought from John and Marly Boyd — has yet to settle, ditto the $20 million spent on Snapperman Beach at Palm Beach.
The talk is the acquisitions could be spread among their children, Jack, Max, Ed, Lara and Ellie.
