Paul Dennis Lambert, 36, who was shot dead last night, was a finance worker based in Sydney. He was on the run after stabbing Angela Jay, 28, and dousing her in petrol. They had met on Tinder eight weeks ago.

THE man shot dead by police after he stabbed his ex-girlfriend 11 times and doused her in petrol, stalked and harassed the woman after meeting her on Tinder.

Paul Dennis Lambert, 36, and 28-year-old Angela Jay started a brief relationship about eight weeks ago, after meeting on the social media dating site.

But the relationship quickly soured and Ms Jay told Lambert, from Kogarah in Sydney’s south, “it’s over, I don’t want to see you again,” court documents state.

Weeks of harassment, which included threats that Lambert would “throw himself in front of a train” if Ms Jay didn’t take him back, followed.

He also used a second phone to pretend to be a friend and told Ms Jay that Lambert would “kill himself and it would be her fault,” court documents state.

During a work function in Gosford last Saturday night, which Ms Jay had allowed Lambert to attend with her because he had “been invited some time ago”, she got upset with their “ongoing problems” and left.

Ms Jay went to stay with her sister, however Lambert “turned up” a “couple of times” during the night, which made Ms Jay “feel scared and uncomfortable.”

Lambert then called Ms Jay about 50 times on Sunday, and text her messages that “implies he is going to come back to the house and do something to her”.

Some of the messages threatened: “Your not safe in that house. I have some of the house keys”, and “I need you to understand that this is my good side right now. The good side won’t last long. Especially being rejected”.

But the short love-affair ended in a bloody mess last night.

The Daily Telegraph understands that Lambert was laying in wait for Ms Jay to arrive home to to her Magnolia Cl house, and pounced on her about 6pm.

She struggled to her neighbours house for help while Lambert fled.

Paramedics arrived to find Ms Jay laying in a pool of blood and she was rushed to Port Macquarie Base Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

The attack triggered a manhunt with police spotting Lambert driving along the Pacific Hwy about 9.45pm.

Officers gave chase and he was eventually cornered at Bonville near Coffs Harbour.

During the confrontation, Lambert was shot dead, although police are yet to release details.

“A critical incident team from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident including the discharge of a police firearm,” a NSW Police Force spokesman said.

Earlier, witnesses to the attack said they were shocked it had occurred in a calm, well-kept suburban cul-de-sac.

“It’s not a grubby neighbourhood at all, it’s calm, really well kept and very nice,” one neighbour said.

“It’s just such a shock when an attack like that happens around here.

“There are a lot of families around here.”

Other neighbours said they were surprised when told of the horror attack because they had not heard any loud noises or sounds of a struggle from the house.

Back in Sydney, Lambert moved into a two-storey terraced home in Kogarah several months ago.

A finance worker, he kept long hours and was rarely seen by his flatmate Elisa Patten.

Two months ago he briefly introduced “my new girlfriend” Angela when he brought her home for the first time.

A shocked Ms Patten, a receptionist, said: “I knew something was wrong as the cops came to the house looking for him two days ago.

“I knew he had a girlfriend Angela who was pretty and young but I only met her briefly.

“He was excited he had met someone and said he really liked her.

“He was an ordinary guy, a normal flatmate, he was just a bit useless at taking the rubbish out otherwise he was a lively guy who kept himself to himself.”
