Man arrested following alleged aggravated robbery at 24-hour store on Todd St, Alice Springs

June 17, 6.30am: A 31-year-old man was arrested in Alice Springs after he allegedly brandished a knife while robbing a 24-hour store early on Tuesday morning.

Southern Watch Commander Marc Watson said NT Police received reports of the aggravated robbery about 3am.

Police allege the man entered the 24-hour store on Todd St and attempted to steal items.

When he was confronted by the store attendant, the man allegedly produced a knife and threatened the worker, according to police.

Commander Watson said the alleged offender then left the store and was tracked by CCTV operators.

He was arrested by police shortly after and at the time of writing, remains in custody.

The man is expected to be charged with aggravated burglary later on Tuesday police said.

Tennant Creek police hunt for group who allegedly ‘nearly collided’ with pedestrians in stolen car

June 16, 12.30pm: NT Police are calling on the public’s assistance to help them find who stole a car which police say was “driving dangerously” through Tennant Creek.

Police said the white Toyota HiLux was first reportedly driving dangerously just after 11am on Saturday, where it “allegedly nearly collided with pedestrians”.

No injuries were reported, police said, with the vehicle later confirmed as stolen from a business on Patterson St.

The HiLux evaded police tyre deflation devices, cops said, but was later found abandoned.

The car was seized for forensics, with the alleged thieves still on the run police said.

An unknown amount of offenders stole the car, police said, and investigations are ongoing.

Boys arrested over car theft in suburban Alice Springs

June 16, 12pm: Three boys who allegedly stole a woman’s car as she was outside her home have been arrested after a “co-ordinated response”, police say.

NT Police said the woman had her car stolen on Friday, June 13, at around 7.25pm.

The woman was allegedly threatened and assaulted by the boys, police said, before they allegedly took her keys and her car.

Cops began tracking the car, police said, with the vehicle spotted around Alice Springs with the boys allegedly inside.

“A co-ordinated response involving multiple police units established a roving cordon of the vehicle, which was subsequently located abandoned,” police said.

The boys, aged 12, 13, and 14 were “arrested nearby,” according to police.

They were dealt with under the Youth Justice Act 2005, while the woman’s car was seized for forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations, police said.

Larapinta face slasher still at large

June 16, 6.30am: A 59-year-old man’s face was slashed by an “unknown male” in Larapinta on Sunday morning, with the offender still at large.

Southern Watch Commander Marc Watson said the vicious attack occurred about 1.20am on Sunday morning at the victim’s Grant Rd residence.

Commander Watson said the victim had just arrived home when he was approached by an “unknown male”.

Following a brief conversation, the victim’s face was slashed by what police believe was a knife before the offender fled the scene, he said.

The 59-year-old victim remains in hospital with deep lacerations to his face and will undergo surgery.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact 131 444 and quote the reference number NTP2500060887.

Firey’s help nab alleged rooftop robber

June 16, 6am: Firefighters were called to assist in the apprehension of a rooftop robber late on Sunday night in Alice Springs.

Southern Watch Commander Marc Watson said police responded to reports of a break-in at the Epilogue Lounge bar in Todd Mall about 10pm.

A 15-year-old boy was sighted by CCTV operators leaving the scene and arrested shortly after, he said.

A 21-year-old man was also spotted running across rooftops where he was cornered by NT Police on top of a roof awning and arrested.

Commander Watson said NT firefighters were called to assist police in removing the alleged offender from the rooftop.

The two alleged offenders remain in custody and are expected to be charged with burglary offences.
