March 5, 7am: A 101-year-old man on a mobility scooter has been taken to hospital with lacerations after he was allegedly assaulted and robbed in Darwin City.

About 9.30pm on Tuesday, the man was travelling along Mitchell St on his mobility scooter when he was approached by a trio of females.

Police say the trio, aged 14, 15 and 19, held the man and they took his keys and wallet before fleeing the area.

The man suffered lacerations to his arms and was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

NT Police in a statement on Wednesday morning said CCTV operators had spotted the alleged offenders shortly after the assault and they had since been arrested.

The trio were charged on Wednesday afternoon with one count each of aggravated robbery and deprive a person of personal liberty.

They were remanded to appear in court on Thursday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Trent Abbott condemned the act.

“This was a disgraceful attack on a vulnerable member of our society and the actions of these offenders was abhorrent,” he said.

“Thankfully the victim is expected to make a full recovery.

He commended the quick action of the CCTV operators.

Crash closes three lanes of Top End highway

March 4, 3pm: NT Police advised that all three inbound lanes were closed between Temple Terrace and Tulagi Road following the car crash.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and use Roystonea Ave or Toupein Road as an alternative route.

Police have since confirmed the scene has been cleared, and traffic is now flowing freely.

Drivers are reminded to drive with caution.

Snake bites send pair to hospital

March 4, 7am: Territorians are being asked to be mindful of snakes, after two people were bitten and taken to Katherine Hospital overnight.

At about 10pm on Monday in Katherine South, St John Ambulance responded to reports of a 29-year-old man who had been bitten on the foot by a snake.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to Katherine Hospital in a serious condition.

An hour later paramedics received an alert that 25-year-old woman had been bitten in Katherine East, also on the foot.

The woman was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman urged Territorians to take precautions.

“Make sure you’re wearing long shoes and pants when walking through the bush,” she said.

“If you feel like you’ve been bitten, call Triple-Zero immediately and sit still.”

Elderly man assaulted in Karama home invasion

March 3, 1:46pm: Police are calling for information after an aggravated robbery in Karama on Saturday night.

About 10:30pm, police received a report of a break-in at a home on Kalymnos Drive.

A 72-year-old man told police he’d heard a noise at the back door and went to investigate.

It was there he was allegedly confronted by an intruder, who forced his way inside and assaulted the elderly occupant multiple times.

Police allege the stranger stole the man’s wallet and other personal belongings.

The alleged offender fled on foot.

The victim suffered minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident are investigating and have asked anyone with information to come forward and quote reference P25058898.
