A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the offenders attempted to gain entry to the home but were unsuccessful.

“Police are investigating an attempted break and enter at Mermaid Waters earlier today, December 3,” he said.

“The offenders did not gain access to the home and left the scene in the vehicle they arrived in.

“No one was physically harmed during the incident.

“Police attended and conducted patrols; however, they were not able to locate the offenders.”

The property owner shared disturbing CCTV footage of the attempted robbery on social media, showing the armed duo prowling around the property.

“The doorbell was ripped off the wall, which triggered the doorbell that woke us up,” the property owner told The Bulletin.

“I was so scared.

“One man had a gun, and another had a meat cleaver.”

She said the offender jumped the fences and tried every door for over six minutes.

“Lucky we have big dogs and were prepared.”

She said she’d lived in the area for 30 years and never had anything like this happen before.

“Stay safe community.”

Investigations are continuing.

Police have urged anyone with further information, CCTV or dashcam vision from the area at the time to contact police.
