At 81 years old, Dave Magnussen is the oldest current member of the club. He has taken part in the weekly weekend races for the past 23 years. Despite living in SydneyÕs northern suburb of Chatswood, he makes the journey to Eastern Suburbs every Sunday to race. Dave loves the company, the swimming and the warm sunny days, and thinks the BBQ lunch at the club is the best value for $5 you can get. His favourite event is the 90m handicap, as he says the younger swimmers are too quick for him in the sprints. Her favourite event is the 90m, 3 lap race and on days when itÕs not too cold, sheÕll have a dip in the ocean post-race as well. Ginny says big waves and swell can sometimes be a challenge and some Sundays it feels like sheÕs swimming in a washing machine. She remembers many years ago competition had to be stopped after they found a baby shark in the pool. One of the members caught it and returned it to the ocean and racing continued.
