A FIRE in a popcorn machine reportedly caused about 300 people to be evacuated from a cinema in Parramatta last night.
Fire crews were called to Event Cinemas at Westfield Parramatta around 11pm and conducted a “large scale search and rescue operation”.
“Due to the large amount of smoke that had filled the cinema complex and the large amount of persons present we conducted a very large scale search and rescue operation,” Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman Kernin Lambert told Channel Nine last night.
“Due to the good evacuation procedures, all persons were able to safely evacuate from the building.” The blaze reportedly took 30 minutes to put out.
