Tim Blair: Family man Joe Biden finally counts right up to seven

The US President has neglected his seventh grandchild for four years, but now conveniently counts her. These Biden people are so damn cold their DNA could reverse UN chief Antonio Guterres’s “global boiling”, writes Tim Blair.

According to his fans and enablers, Joe Biden is the folksy embodiment of old-fashioned family values, personal decency and dogged political perseverance.

That’s why Biden was the right man for the White House, those enablers insisted throughout the 2020 US presidential campaign. America’s gentle grandpa would heal the nation following four years of tragically high employment, shocking energy independence and appalling foreign policy stability.

But even before damning revelations emerged late in 2020 from his son Hunter’s “laptop from hell” – revelations the senior Biden brazenly dismissed as Russian disinformation – old Joe’s family-friendly falsehoods were already shaping to take him down.

Not that Biden family values were ever anything to write home about. Unless that home is located within a secure detox facility, in which case it’d probably be filled by disoriented and babbling Bidens anyway.

Biden’s son Hunter, daughter Ashley, brother Frank, niece Caroline and late son Beau’s widow Hallie have all landed in rehab for their drug and alcohol adventures.

Biden family misbehaviour even crosses species lines. Last week it was reported that the President’s dog Commander had chomped or otherwise attacked Secret Service staff at least 10 times. Withdrawal symptoms, probably. Who knows what that hound is using.

Biden himself, however, is now being bitten by his own words.

In 2019, then-presidential candidate Joe was asked by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy about Hunter taking a paternity test to prove he hadn’t fathered a daughter with stripper Lunden Roberts.

The paternity test, presented to an Arkansas court, proved he had. Hunter was a stripper baby daddy, so Doocy reasonably enough ran this news by grandfather Joe.

“I’m wondering,” Doocy asked, “if you have a comment on this report and court filing out of Arkansas that your son Hunter just made you a grandfather again.”

“No. That’s a private matter. I have no comment,” Biden snapped.

Notably, Biden four years ago sounded significantly sharper and more coherent than the current model. Also he remained vertical.

“But only you would ask that,” Biden continued, flashing a hostile smile. “You’re a good man. You’re a good man. Classy.”

Hmmm. “Classy” isn’t usually an insult you’d aim at someone else after your own drug-addicted cash-siphon son knocked up a stripper and then tried to skip out on child support.

Thereafter followed a peculiar dance whereby Joe Biden frequently mentioned his six beloved grandchildren and the media politely ignored that his total grandchild count was seven. Poor little Navy Joan Roberts, Hunter’s little daughter, became invisible.

“I have six grandchildren,” Biden said as recently as April, during a White House event for children.

For once his mathematical miscalculation – last week he claimed “over a hundred people” had died from Covid – was deliberate rather than accidental.

The President, good old Grandpa Floor-Flopper, continued: “I’m crazy about them and I speak to them every single day.”

Except for Navy, now four years old, who thanks to legal action brought by her father earlier this year has even lost the right to use “Biden” as her surname.

If you still need your heart broken after reading that, search online for images of Christmas stockings hung for Biden’s grandchildren above a White House fireplace.

There are only six of them. These Biden people are so damn cold their DNA could reverse UN chief Antonio Guterres’s “global boiling”.

Then, earlier this month, something changed. The story of Biden’s shunned seventh grandchild leapt from conservative media to the leftist New York Times.

Below the headline “It’s Seven Grandkids, Mr President”, columnist Maureen Dowd wrote: “The President’s cold shoulder – and heart – is counter to every message he has sent for decades and it’s out of sync with the America he wants to continue to lead.”

As many speculated, subsequent focus group responses to Biden’s granddaughter denial must have been devastating – because Biden last week decided that he did have a seventh grandkid after all.

“Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter,” President Biden said in a White House statement.

“This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter. Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy.”

His statement makes matters even worse. One day, that little girl will learn she was acknowledged only because “family values” Biden wanted to win re-election.
