Thor point? Worthington v Hemsworth rumour reignites as Lara dumps manager

Lara Worthington’s abrupt dumping of manager, Patrick Devlin, just days after he signed Gabriella Brooks, model girlfriend of Liam Hemsworth, has tongues wagging.

She’s had more managers than most models have had meat pies but Lara Worthington’s decision to dump her latest has reignited talk of a longstanding rivalry between her husband Sam Worthington, star of the nation’s number one box office hit Avatar, and Australia’s number one male box office star, Chris Hemsworth.

The call by Bingle to part ways with her little known manager Patrick Devlin – a man who looks to have been consumed with Mrs Worthington since signing her in 2017 – was the talk of the opening of French luxury brand Celine’s new Pitt Street boutique on Wednesday night where model Gabriella Brooks, girlfriend of Hemsworth’s younger sibling Liam, served as the in-house model.

As guests mingled, talk turned to sweet-faced Ms Brooks, who days earlier signed on with Devlin’s PHD Advisory.

Brooks’ move to PHD coincides neatly with Worthington’s departure, which this column hears is no mere coincidence.

Devlin was apparently blindsided when Worthington informed him their relationship was over.

It comes just weeks after the manager in posted images of Worthington to his social media account on November 5.

While model industry sources yesterday ruminated on the likelihood Worthington, who made her name as a short-statured swimsuit model, was aggrieved to find Devlin had added another short-statured swimsuit model — with an actor boyfriend — to his books (although one who, at 26, is nine-years 35-year-old Mrs Worthington’s junior), film industry insiders suggested the split may have more to do with Sam Worthington’s longtime rivalry with Chris Hemsworth and the forthcoming launch of Avatar 2.

According to industry types, Worthington’s nose has been out of joint since the younger Hemsworth shot to international fame as Thor in the Marvel Universe Avengers’ cinematic franchise in 2011, his star eclipsing Worthington’s own.

Subsequent Avengers’ films have only bolstered 39-year-old Hemsworth’s status and wealth as an action hero and charismatic leading man. Conversely, 46-year-old Worthington spent minimal time on screen as hardened marine Jake Scully in director James Cameron’s 2009 film Avatar.

The forthcoming release of Avatar 2 this summer has, say sources, revived Worthington’s decade-long contest with Hemsworth who, in the 13 years since Avatar was released, has become the bigger star.

Devlin, who like Sam Worthington hails from WA, could not be reached for comment yesterday on the loss of his number one client, who has undergone an image reboot since catching the eye of the famously-private Worthington at a Cotton On promotion in the US in 2013 and moving to the US.

Devlin’s LinkedIn account supplies only minimal detail of his own career origins, the record beginning in 2009 when the now 40-year-old joined UK-based Australian fashion forecaster Yasmin Sewell’s business as a buyer.

Back-to-back year-long stints as a buyer for Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop and Conde Naste followed before Devlin launched his brand shop in 2017 immediately prior to signing Mrs Worthington.
