CAN a child support agreement be extended past 18?

This was one of the questions posed in last week’s legal Q & A with the experts from BRYDENS LAWYERS.

The answer was yes.

“There is nothing to prevent you from making an application to the child support agency for continuing support beyond the child’s 18th birthday supported by submissions as to why such support is required,” Brydens said. “In the event such an application is unsuccessful you can appeal to the Social Security Appeals Tribunal. As I have said payment of support beyond 18 years of age is the exception not the norm.”

Other questions covered medical negligence, wills and boundary fences.
