Here’s a curly query posed recently — and Brydens’ insightful response.
Question: I was bashed by an intoxicated individual at a local bowling club. Do I have any legal ability for compensation, including medical costs?
Answer: A victim of a crime who suffers injury can bring a claim through the Victims Compensation Tribunal. In addition there would be a claim available as against the perpetrator. Whether the perpetrator would be in a position to meet any judgment debt may be problematic given there is no insurance of any kind that would respond to such a claim. That is, the perpetrator would need to meet a judgment debt personally.
