Gerard asks: My father recently found a girlfriend and she has moved in to his house and he is spending money on new kitchen, painting etc. She doesn’t bring anything financial to the relationship and Dad pays for everything. He’s spoken to her about signing an agreement so she cannot leave and try to take his assets but hasn’t followed through as yet. Can I organise for something to be drawn up for them to sign?
Brydens answers:
There is something that can be done. A binding financial agreement or living together agreement can be prepared and executed by the parties to set out the financial arrangements that will be followed and what will occur in the event of a separation.
