THERE has been yet another case of a NSW household’s Samsung washing machine burning up after it had supposedly been rendered safe with the plastic-bag-and-tape fix.

Recall statistics released yesterday by Samsung’s public relations agency reveal that in the past month a 13th burning incident involving a “post rework” machine has been recorded. Nationally, there have been 23, as well as two fires.

In machines that hadn’t been looked at by a technician there have been 119 “confirmed issues” of burning plus 82 fires. Half of the blazes were in NSW.

It has now been three years since six Samsung top-loader models were recalled. The company is still to examine 34,000 of the 144,000 affected appliances.

Samsung yesterday urged consumers who may own one of those 34,000 machines to visit www.samsung.com/au/washingmachinerecall or call its toll-free hotline on 1800 239 655.

Its PR agency would not provide details of the latest incident involving a repaired machine.
