TWO days after news broke of bar mogul Justin Hemmes’ separation from the mother of his two baby daughters, Kate Fowler, theories abound on what happened to the relationship between the privileged new parents.

Though Hemmes was refusing to elaborate further on the breakdown of his four-year relationship yesterday, the hip 45-year-old entrepreneur is simply not, say pals, the marrying kind.

“Never was,” said one chirpily.

Hemmes’ reluctance to pop the question to Fowler, daughter of golf pro Peter Fowler and wife Kim, is rumoured to have contributed to the breakdown of the union although friends insist it was not the only reason for the bust-up.

“Kate is a thoroughly modern woman. She didn’t need a wedding ring on her finger at this time,” said one, pointing out the former model is only 28.

Yet she may have hoped for one down the road.

The death of Hemmes’ adored father, John, in 2015 coincided with the discovery of Kate’s first pregnancy.

The businessman informed this reporter in June 2015 that Hemmes Sr had guessed Fowler’s secret on his deathbed three months earlier.

“Dad actually looked at Kate and said he sensed she might be pregnant,” he said.

John Hemmes died happy knowing his cherished boy, who had then entered his forties, was preparing to set down roots Hemmes tellingly informed us.

While it’s highly doubtful Hemmes Sr had any desire to see his playboy son “settle down”, so proud was he of his boy and his insatiable appetite for life and work, it seems he did love being a grandfather to his older daughter Bettina’s children.

For the time being, Hemmes’ daughters Alexa, two, and Saachi, one — both so like their father — remain under the roof of Hemmes’ $65 million Vaucluse home along with their mother.

But the businessman, whose empire has been put at $900 million, has said that is “for now”.

A move to a home nearby — for the either the girls or their mother, solo — seems highly likely.
