Kerry Parnell: Time for Hollywood star DiCaprio to ditch Leo’s Law

Leonardo DiCaprio’s biggest grossing movie has turned 25— the same age as his most recent string of exes. And as the actor himself nears 50, it looks all kinds of wrong, writes Kerry Parnell.

Listen up Leo – when your girlfriends become younger than your biggest movie, it’s time to toe the line.

It’s sink or swim for Leonardo DiCaprio, as the actor, who is knocking 50, celebrates the 25th anniversary of his biggest-grossing movie, Titanic.

Leo, who has become so notorious for giving his girlfriends the flick once they hit a quarter of a century, it’s termed “Leo’s Law”, now faces the unfortunate position that his most-loved movie is older than his other halves.

In other words, he’s dating women whose mothers were giving birth to them the same time Titanic was hitting the cinemas, in December 1997.

It’s highly likely many of them have never even seen it.

No wonder Rose didn’t budge over on that bit of door frame, she’d probably got wind her time was nearly up.

Leo, who turns 48 in November, split with his last girlfriend, model and actor Camila Morrone, recently. Camila is, you guessed it, 25.

But to be fair to The Great Gatsby star, he’s now linked to Gigi Hadid, who is an ancient 27. This deserves some recognition: Hadid, who split from singer Zayn Malik last year, is also mum to two-year-old daughter Khai.

The pair have been spotted out and about, including at Paris Fashion Week earlier this week.

They were snapped at the same hotel – Gigi arriving at 10pm and Leo going out at 1am, to hit some nightclubs.

Let’s hope those nightspots were more along the lines of Parisians in black turtlenecks and intellectual specs, discussing Sartre, than visiting celebs making shapes on the dancefloor.

Because even Hollywood stars look daggy doing dad dances down the disco.

Now obviously, Leo is the captain of his own ship – heck, he’s the King of the World – but I fear he’s in choppy waters and so, like a foghorn I’m sounding a warning lest he sends his love life and career onto the rocks.

It’s starting to look a bit creepy, me old shipmate.

When your ex-girlfriends (Kristen Zang, Gisele Bundchen) are now two decades older than your current ones, it’s all kinds of wrong.

You’re not Benjamin Button, everyone gets older, no matter how much you attempt to hold back time by keeping your girlfriends the same age.

If only he had got together with Kate Winslet – also 47 – they could have been best mates and partners and grown gloriously older together.

Instead he reportedly walked her down the aisle with third husband Edward Abel Smith in 2012.

In the words of Ricky Gervais, at the 2020 Golden Globes, “Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere, and by the end, his date was too old for him. Come on Leo mate, you know, you’re nearly 50, son.”

Still, Leo, if you didn’t listen to Ricky, maybe you’ll listen to Kate, or rather, Rose.

“I saw my whole life as if I’d already lived it. An endless parade of parties and cotillions, yachts, and polo matches. Always the same narrow people, the same mindless chatter,” she said.

“I felt like I was standing at a great precipice, with no one to pull me back.”
