It’s no surprise that students are indoctrinated by teachers

Since schools embraced Al Gore’s fake science about the impending disaster caused by global warming in 2006 students have been given a steady diet of propaganda. Today’s protest is the result of years of indoctrination by teachers, writes Kevin Donnelly.

It beggars belief that children as young as 8, 10 and 11 are now climate change experts and are striking to protest against the Commonwealth government’s supposed failure to stop man-made global warming.

Instead of being in class learning about what constitutes evidence-based research and that the science is far from settled, students are calling on the government to stop the Adani coal mine and go to 100 per cent renewable energy — represented by unreliable and costly wind and solar power.

That students have been indoctrinated by teachers to mimic deep green alarmism should not surprise.

Since schools embraced Al Gore’s fake science about the impending disaster caused by global warming in 2006 students have been given a steady diet of propaganda.

That the national curriculum mandates sustainability and the environment as one of the three cross-curriculum priorities further explains why students are so biased and uniformed.

One student wrote about the strike: “In school, we have seen the raw truth of climate change; videos of our dead and dying Great Barrier Reef, increasingly shocking statistics, forecasts of a worrying future.”

Another student aged 10 argues: “Australia must take action on climate change now before more species become extinct”, while another is terrified that “whole islands will disappear”.

The reality is that education is no longer objective and impartial.

Politically correct activists are happy to argue teachers have every right to inflict their personal political viewpoints on students.

And the Australian Education Union also endorses classroom political activism, best illustrated by its call at the start of the 2003 war against Iraq where it urged teachers to “take action in your workplace and community” and to “Support students who take an anti-war stance”.

Dr Kevin Donnelly is the author of How Political Correctness Is Destroying Education.
