How Kim Kardashian can really help Greta Thunberg save world

In the reality star’s fantasy land, Kim Kardashian West and the plucky young climate change campaigner Greta Thunberg are sisters at heart, Duncan Lay writes.

I can barely believe it but climate change activist Greta Thunberg has stumbled on to something that can unite the whole world, from the wackiest greenie to the craziest sceptic — a campaign to reduce the vocals emission of Kim Kardashian.

Kardashian West recently gave an interview in which she praised Thunberg, said she wanted to meet her and also spruiked her own environmental credentials.

These apparently include having the servants switch everything from plastic to glass in the family’s 617 mega-mansions dotted around the planet. They have even refused to use plastic on their private planes and when they hire out an entire jumbo jet to transport themselves, their weirdly-named children and the mere 20 or so staff required to keep them looking Instagram-worthy at any given moment.

What would they have in common?

Thunberg has sacrificed her schooling and her childhood to campaign for what she believes in.

Kim has flashed her naked arse in the pursuit of social media followers, likes and the ability to be paid millions for pretending to use a pointless product while wearing three pieces of string masquerading as a bikini.

Let’s face it, she should really change her name to Konspicuous Konsumption.

Her whole philosophy is based around getting people to burn fuel, money, electricity and self-respect in a desperate quest to emulate her. Still, in the fantasy land of Kardashian West, they are sisters at heart.

Perhaps she sees it as Thunberg is demonstrating to save the globe, while Kardashian is demonstrating to show off her globes.

It does make me wonder what Thunberg would say to Kimbo if they did ever meet for dinner.

The plucky teen gave both barrels to world leaders at the UN so I don’t think she’d hold back in telling Kim a few home truths.

Now that’s one episode of a Kardashian reality show I might want to watch.

But imagine if Thunberg’s impassioned words sink into Kardashian’s mind — assuming they can first fight their way through the thick layers of makeup.

Could we see her refusing to make another Instagram post until world leaders commit to action on climate change? Perhaps the entire Kardashian clan would
declare they won’t make any more reality TV unless emissions are reduced?

Or the pack of them demanding you refuse to buy one more piece of their branded rubbish until alternative power is promoted? Perhaps we could somehow trap the hot air their reality TV gibbering produces and use that as a power source. It’s a thought to warm you on an endless Swedish winter’s night, even if you only have solar power.

Obviously there is more chance of China signing up for free elections.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more I worry we could instead see things like Kardashian and her sisters wearing nothing but body paint and made up to look like the Earth, to demonstrate the effects of climate change.

Although that might just succeed where Thunberg failed in getting Donald Trump’s America to look again at climate change. I’m certain he’d want to rush in and help if he saw that their ice caps were melting.
