Hadley Jr gets emotional in herogram to embattled dad

Following our exclusive two weeks ago concerning the impending arrival of broadcaster Ray Hadley’s latest grandchild, the baby of his embattled son Daniel and partner Cass Janes, the couple posted their first pregnant couple photo to social media last week — with a brief three-word caption, “my little family”.

FOLLOWING our exclusive two weeks ago concerning the impending arrival of broadcaster Ray Hadley’s latest grandchild, the baby of his embattled son Daniel and his partner, former Rouse Hill barmaid Cass Janes, the couple posted their first pregnant couple photo to social media last week — with a brief three-word caption, “my little family”.

The photo, showing blonde-again Janes in the eighth month of her pregnancy, looked to have been taken at the new Bankwest Stadium on Tuesday night during Parramatta’s thrashing of Wests Tigers in the NRL competition — perhaps a statement of support from Hadley Jr to Hadley Sr who is now at the centre of bullying claims brought by past and present 2GB staff.

Or perhaps it was a statement of support from Hadley Sr to Hadley Jr as Daniel and Janes look to have been his guests for the night, or so vision posted to Daniel’s Facebook page showing the 2GB host calling part of the match would suggest.

Father and son have not been sighted together in public since prior to Daniel being busted in possession of cocaine in August last year, forcing his resignation from the police force the following month. Criminal charges were later dropped on mental health grounds.

In a rare social media post, Daniel kept his thoughts on his father’s Tuesday night NRL commentary call brief — posting just two emojis, a crown (the king) and a flame (on fire).

He had considerably more to say a week earlier in a lengthy Facebook post, afterwards deleted, that was much at odds with the 28-year-old’s usual brief or wordless posts.

It began much like a Marvel Studios origin tale: “Here’s the story you don’t hear of read. Born and raised in housing commission at Dundas. The son of a butcher. He drove a taxi to make ends meet in a quest to follow his dream.

“One day he picked up the right customer at the right time and was given an opportunity. Since that time, this man has commentated at 6 Olympics, 78 Origins and 29 Grand Finals. He has won 118 consecutive radio ratings at number 1 and is the undisputed king of the airwaves.

“His day does not start at 4am and finish at 12pm. A few nights a week he is giving up his spare time to raise money for people he knows or complete strangers. He has raised over 4 million dollars for charities and 1 million dollars for motor neurone disease alone. He does not charge for his time and when offered refuses.

“He is the voice for the people who don’t have one or are too afraid to stand up. He does not think he is better than you because he will never forget where he came from.

“Not everyone is going to like you, and in this case that happens frequently but we’ve come to learn that the biggest critics are the people who have not accomplished a thing in their life and are looking for some satisfaction. There are plenty.

“He is a perfectionist and many have failed to keep up to his standard or work ethic. That’s not his fault. He’s just in a world of his own. The figures tell the story.

“People take advantage of his name regularly and over the years there’s been many instances where we’ve all been asked for things. Rarely does he knock you back.

“Yesterday we watched him commentate at the new Bankwest Stadium and after 25 years of listening to him, it still gives me goosebumps.

The herogram to his father ended emotionally: “All we need is each other and that’s what we’ve got. I love you mate.”

Who knew failed cop Daniel, 28, was such a gifted wordsmith?

Perhaps a career in advertising awaits him following his recovery.
