After the grotesque intimidation of Jews outside a Caulfield synagogue, our weak political leaders respond by implying Jews share the blame for being persecuted.

Damn those gutless politicians who perversely blame “Islamophobia” when – get this – Muslims drive to our most Jewish suburb to abuse Jews outside a synagogue.

No wonder more than 100 Holocaust survivors last week warned that Australia reminds them of the “senseless and virulent hatred of Jews” they saw in Nazi Germany.

Melbourne on Friday night shocked me.

Nearly 200 pro-Palestinians drove over to Caulfield’s Princes Park, just opposite a synagogue, where they held Muslim prayers, screamed insults at Jews across the street, and chanted anti-Israel slogans.

Muslims drove to our most Jewish suburb to abuse Jews outside a synagogue.

One dashed over and started a brawl.

Another jeered at the Jews: “Youse can’t do this in Broadmeadows”, a suburb 36 per cent Muslim.

Meanwhile, Jews in the synagogue for Shabbat were evacuated for their safety.

But here’s how Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan responded to this grotesque intimidation: “There is … no place for anti-Semitism or Islamophobia here in Melbourne.”

Islamophobia? This despicable “both sides” sham implies Jews share the blame for being persecuted.

Yet Victoria’s weak Liberal leader, John Pesutto, likewise tweeted “there is no place for anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, prejudice or hatred”.

Only the next day did he denounce this as an “anti-Semitic incident”.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong also played at both sides, tweeting: “There is no place for violence, no place for anti-Semitism and no place for Islamophobia.”

What Islamophobia?

The despicable ‘both sides’ sham implies Jews share the blame for being persecuted.

True, Free Palestine Melbourne, which organised the Caulfield protest, claims it was to show support for a nearby burger joint owned by an anti-Israel Palestinian activist and torched on Friday morning in an alleged “anti-Palestinian hate crime”, but police insist they have no evidence of “any religious or political involvement” in the fire.

Wong on Sunday pandered even more to Islamic extremists, declaring that double standards are the government’s official policy towards Israel and the Hamas terrorists it’s fighting: “Australia is a democracy and so too is Israel and the standards that we seek and accept are higher.”

Actually, Hamas, which runs Gaza, should be held to those same standards and thus be condemned as we condemned Nazi Germany – as a totalitarian, genocidal and warmongering regime whose neighbours will never be safe while it exists.

And while Hamas apologists here are left to run wild, our Jews won’t be safe, either.
