Andrew Bolt: Same-sex marriage bullies play into Tony Abbott’s hands

SAME-SEX bullies have played into Tony Abbott’s hands as the marriage equality plebiscite becomes a vote on free speech, writes Andrew Bolt.

THEbullies of the same-sex marriage crusade have played right into the hands of former prime minister Tony Abbott. Their abuse and thuggery is just too much.

How dare they drag three Christian preachers to Tasmania’s Anti-Discrimination Tribunal for speaking against gay marriage?

How dare Labor and the Greens refuse even to let the public vote on whether to scrap the traditional definition of marriage after thousands of years?

Abbott has now seized on this bullying to say the Turnbull Government’s promised plebiscite is about more than whether to legalise same-sex marriage. It is also a vote against the bullies.

“If you’re worried about religious freedom and freedom of speech, vote ‘no’,” he said.

“If you don’t like political correctness vote ‘no’.”

And who isn’t sick of the antics of those whose power lies in taking offence? Take the latest example. Activist Sally Goldner, head of Transgender Victoria, complains that even the Victorian Government’s planned new Pride Centre for the LGBTQI community is guilty of permitting “transphobic attitudes” and “non-binary erasure”, whatever that is.

She is offended that a convener greeted one audience with “ladies and gentlemen” when allegedly “non-binary” people were there, a category few Victorians would guess existed.

She also took offence at lesbian activist Matrix Guild using “transphobic language” by asking for a “safe space” in the centre for biological women only.

What inventive ways to get offended. Fancy bridling at “ladies and gentlemen”.

It’s a comfort to think the centre could be a contained space for activists to take offence at each other, but others want to take their ideologies into your home, with government kicking down your doors.

South Australia’s Labor Government, unhinged by its global warming faith, is even hiring “conversationalists” to go to 18,000 homes to nag residents into “safer, greener, more active travel”. Got a car? Shouldn’t you walk instead?

Don’t these totalitarians respect any boundaries? Odd how their morality makes them feel entitled to nag, abuse, censor, threaten and even punch.

I feel sorry for the same-sex marriage activists for whom the cause truly is about love and acceptance. But by not distancing themselves from the haters, they’ve let Abbott turn the plebiscite into a vote against their bullying instead.
