Police in Katherine are probing if a series of alleged burglaries are linked, after cars were damaged, smartphones were allegedly stolen, and a carjacking went wrong.

NT Police said the first incident occurred on Maluka Rd at 10.30pm Saturday, with the last incident – the alleged carjacking – occurring at 1pm Sunday.

While police probe to see if the incidents are connected, the common thread is a group of males who allegedly attempted five separate burglaries in Katherine.

On Saturday night, police allege the “multiple unknown males” attempted to enter the Maluka Rd home, from which two smartphones and a laptop were stolen.

One person in the five-resident home alleged one of the offenders was armed with an “edged weapon,” according to police.

Just over an hour later, police allege a woman was threatened at her Fordham Crt home by “multiple males,” who demanded her keys after she answered the door to them.

“The victim fled the property to find safety before contacting police,” police said,

Immediately after, another property on Acacia Rd was hit, police allege.

“The owner received a notification through a security system and immediately contacted police. Police attended the location; however, the alleged offenders fled prior to arrival and no access was gained at the property,” police said.
Once it hit Sunday, police said they received reports of a “disturbance” at a Grevillea Dr facility, were “multiple males” damaged a vehicle parked outside.

“Staff and residents were able to secure themselves safely inside until the offenders fled the scene,” police said.

One of the men was allegedly in possession of an edged weapon, which was captured on CCTV.

Then at 1pm Sunday on Sandalwood Cres, a man attempting to park his car in his driveway was approached by a group of “unknown males”.

“It is alleged that one of the offenders produced an edged weapon and smashed a window of the vehicle before the group fled the scene on foot,” police said.

St John Ambulances attended, with the man treated for an injury to his nose, police said.

All of the “unknown males” remain outstanding, with police conducting “extensive patrols” to find them.

Investigations are continuing to determine if the incidents are linked, with police urging anyone with information to contact them on 131 444.

Police have asked reference number NTP2500118418 be quoted.
