A woman has died and a man has been arrested after she was taken to hospital in a “seriously ill” condition.

NT Police on Monday evening said investigations were open into the woman’s “suspicious death” that morning.

About 9am on February 17, emergency services received reports of a seriously ill woman at a Humpty Doo residence.

St John Ambulance took the woman to Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition, but the 39-year-old later died.

Police also attended the hospital and are working to reveal the circumstances of her death.

A crime scene was established at a rural residence, according to police.

A 39-year-old man, who police allege is known to the woman, was arrested.

He is assisting police with inquiries.

“Investigations remain ongoing into the exact circumstances and cause of the woman’s death,” an NT Police spokesperson said.

“Police will release further information as the investigation progresses.”
