An exciting opportunity has fallen the way of a Territory coach with the opportunity to coach some of the nation’s best cricketers.
Relatively new to the Top End, NT Cricket’s Pathway and Development Coach Trent Keep will join the Australia A coaching ranks during Australia’s five-match multi-format series against Sri Lanka A.
The Tasmanian will be rubbing shoulders with former Australian test captain and fellow Tasmanian Tim Paine who has been announced as head coach of the A side for the series.
Keep will take the role of Development Coach alongside national pace bowling Coach Adam Griffith and Australian Women’s Team Assistant Coach Scott Prestwidge.
“Proud” of being granted the opportunity, Keep insisted he won’t alter his style of coaching, promising to deliver the same “authentic” and energy-driven approach that’s got him to where he is today.
“I’m really proud, more so for the whole organisation,” Keep said.
“My coaching style won’t change. I’ll bring that same authentic energy.
“I’m obviously there for a reason, or because they think I have a skill set that could be valuable, so I think it’s about turning up and doing the same stuff over and over.”
Current lead of the Territory Academy program, Keep wants to soak up as much information as possible, in order to transfer it back into the Territory’s own crop.
“I’m sure I’ll learn from the players and the other staff,” he said.
“There are 1000 different ways to go about it and I’m looking forward to having those conversations as well.”
Darwin will host all five fixtures from July 4 to 23 at both the Marrara Cricket Ground (DXC Arena) and Marrara Stadium (TIO Stadium).
