It is the CCTV footage that shows a Sydney father helping a teen driver to fix her car in Sydney’s south west before he allegedly indecently assaulted her.

The footage captured by BP on Chapel Rd South Bankstown on Thursday shows Kenan Basic receiving a hug from the 19-year-old woman after he played Good Samaritan and attempted to fix her car following an accident after 6pm.

Basic was not involved in the accident and after spending about an hour trying to fix the car, police allege Basic, a 36-year-old married father-of-one, propositioned the teen for sex.

Basic approached the teen at a nearby service station and offered assistance to fix here damaged car, the court heard.

When she allegedly refused, Basic is accused of following the teen to Albert St, Revesby, where police allege she again declined his sexual advances shortly after she pulled her car off the road to prevent it overheating.

Police have accused Basic of continuing to follow her and have charged him with indecent assault over a third incident where they allege he tried to get in her vehicle before attempting to touch her breasts and genitals while she was stopped in heavy traffic on Milperra Rd.

Bankstown Police Inspector Dave Firth said Basic was tracked down after the woman’s partner made a report to police on Thursday.

“It seems to have been a spontaneous type of event,” Insp Firth said.

“It seems to have been something where he has taken the opportunity at the time.”

Basic was charged with two counts of indecent assault, inciting a person to commit an act of indecency and stalking or intimidating with intent to cause a person to fear physical harm.

He could not convince Magistrate George Zdenkowski to release him and was refused bail on Saturday.

In court, Basic said: “Oh my God … but I didn’t do nothing. I’m innocent.”

According to Insp Firth, the teen had been involved in accident on Chapel Rd and pulled into the service station and attempted to fix the car herself. Basic was not involved in the accident.

“He’s offered her some assistance to get her car going again and it’s started from there,” Insp Firth said.

Basic spent about an hour helping fix the car, Insp Firth said.

Management and staff of the BP said Basic was a regular customer and were shocked to hear of his arrest.

BP manager Yasmine Bechara said Basic comes in most afternoons.

“He’s a regular customer and he’s very nice,” Ms Bechara said.

“He once helped an intoxicated man who drove into cars and almost his gas bottles.

“He (Basic) put himself in danger to try and stop the car,” Ms Bechara said.

In court, Basic’s Legal Aid lawyer said he was a married father of a three-year-old who worked as a casual carpenter and could put up $2000 bail.

The police prosecutor opposed the bail application and told the court it was a “frightening set of facts” that would carry a jail sentence if Basic was convicted.

Magistrate Zdenkowski refused bail and told the court it was an “extremely serious” set of allegations.

Basic will face Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday.
