THE driver of a car which crashed in Sydney’s southwest, killing a 17-year-old passenger and critically injuring another, has been charged.
The girl died after a crash in Sydney’s southwest just after midnight this morning.
About 12.15am, emergency services were called to Brunker Road, Yagoona, following reports of a car colliding with a parked vehicle.
A 16-year-old girl who was in the back seat was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to Liverpool Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment and mandatory blood and urine tests.
The 18-year-old man, who suffered non life-threatening injuries, has been charged with several offences, including dangerous driving occasioning death.
Bankstown Local Area Command and Crash Investigations Unit officers will investigate the circumstances of the crash.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Farjana Akter who lives in the Yagoona home in front of which the crash occurred said the unconscious teenager was trapped in the wreckage for about 30 minutes before emergency workers could get her out.
Ms Akter, 22, said she was watching the midnight fireworks on TV with her husband when she heard a loud bang outside the house which sounded like a car crashing.
She went outside to see a vehicle had crashed into their work truck parked outside their house which had been pushed forward two metres into a power pole by the impact.
“They were coming very fast you could hear the noise from the car. She was in the front seat, I couldn’t see her face it was covered in blood,” Ms Akter said.
She said the male driver had cuts to his face and managed to get out of the wreckage by himself.
Ms Akter said another car carrying young adults stopped shortly afterwards and rushed to help.
“I guessed by their attitude that they knew them, that they were maybe friends.”
Ms Akter said police who arrived on the scene grabbed brick pavers from their front yard to try to break open the front passenger door and release the woman.
“It all happened just about two minutes past midnight - it is very sad,” Ms Akter said.
It comes as Home and Away star Jessica Falkholt was last night still fighting for her life after a gruesome Boxing Day crash that killed her parents and younger sister Annabelle.
The other driver in the crash also died. He had a history of reckless driving and there have been reports the recovering drug addict was under the influence of methadone.
