A woman has died after a tree fell on a holiday park cabin she was sleeping in near Albury in the state’s south and a man has been rushed to hospital.
The 63-year-old woman’s body was discovered in the wreckage of a destroyed cabin at Tasman Holiday Parks Merool on the Murray in Moama, after a tree fell and landed on the riverfront accommodation.
Emergency services were called to the property on Merool Road about 3:50am on Monday morning following reports the tree had blown over and crushed the cabin, before officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and found the woman had died.
The woman is yet to be formally identified and a 63-year-old man who was also at the cabin at the time, was treated at the scene by Victorian Ambulance paramedics for injuries to his right hand.
He was taken to Echuca Hospital for further treatment.
A reporter will now be prepared for the Coroner as anyone with information about the incident urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
A spokeswoman for Tasman Holiday Parks confirmed emergency services remained onsite on Monday,
“We are devastated by the tragic events overnight at our park, Merool on the Murray, in Moama,” she said.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of both cabin occupants and our thoughts are with the gentleman currently being treated in hospital.
“We are also providing immediate support for our team on site who are understandably very distressed by this terrible accident.
“We will provide updates when available.”
