A Russian woman has been charged over a violent brawl among several men on a cruise ship off Sydney during an argument about a queue for the toilets.

During the fight, the 37-year-old woman, who is the partner of one of the men, allegedly struck a 21-year-old man on the head with an empty wine bottle, causing a laceration.

Security separated the men and they were detained. The man with the injury was treated on board.

A group of six men and the woman were removed from the ship at Bradleys Head. The woman was last night charged with with reckless wounding and affray.

Five other men were released yesterday afternoon — and seen enjoying themselves at Balmain Bowls Club.

It is understood the group were enjoying a buck’s party on the cruise ship, which had to turn back to Sydney.

One of the men said it was “one hell of a buck’s party, that’s it” while another put it down to “just boys being boys”.

P&O Cruises said it had asked police to attend the Pacific Explorer “to remove a group of people from the ship as a result of their behaviour on board”.

That group of people would be banned from any further travel with P&O Cruises, the company said. “This is in line with our strict policy of zero tolerance of excessive behaviour that affects the safety, comfort and enjoyment of other guests,” it said.

After the passengers were removed, the ship left Sydney to continue the cruise — which had been scheduled to last until today — but had to return again last night because of a medical emergency, after a man slipped on deck and injured his back.

A number of passengers told The Daily Telegraph the fight had started outside the ship’s casino area after a woman “got hit on”.

One witness reported seeing “a lot of blood on the floor”. “By the time I was out there I saw some push and shove and some punches thrown,” he said.

Passengers praised the ship’s security for acting swiftly. “There was lots of security who handled it perfectly,” one woman said. Police investigations were continuing.
