Woman attacked with hammer at Sydney’s Primus Hotel

A woman was critically injured after she was attacked with a hammer at a Sydney city hotel overnight.

Forensic detectives are scouring a 1930s-style hotel in Sydney’s CBD where a woman was brutally attacked with what police believe was a hammer on Tuesday night.

Police say the woman was drinking with another person inside her room at Primus Hotel on Pitt Street in Sydney’s CBD, when she was allegedly attacked with a hammer.

The woman was found seriously injured by hotel staff, who rushed emergency services to the scene about 11pm.

She was treated by paramedics before being rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

One guest said he didn’t hear or see anything last night but was “pretty shocked” to hear about the horrific attack.

Another guest named Paul, who was staying on the fifth floor, said he didn’t hear anything but described the attack as “terrible.”

A construction worker named Mitch, who worked next to the hotel last night, said police asked them if they had seen a man fleeing from the hotel.

“We were told it may have been a suicide and there was a standoff with police then it all changed and police asked if we had seen anyone rush out of the hotel,” he said.

Another guest said her stay at the hotel was “lovely” but that she “would think twice before staying here again.”

Forensic detectives arrived at the hotel around 8am on Wednesday to scour the crime scene for clues as to what happened and an elevator has been cordoned off with police tape.

Officers from the Sydney City Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Inquiries are continuing.
