A scuba diver has died during a tragic accident during a diving lesson in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Saturday.
The 53-year-old woman was pulled from the water in a critical condition at Gordons Bay, near Clovelly, just after 9.30am.
Emergency services were called to the area with a report of a woman drowning just off Clovelly Rd.
They arrived at the scene and immediately commenced CPR on the woman who was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in a critical condition but she died a short time later.
“The woman was pulled unconscious from the water by members of the dive course – who were able to commence CPR prior to our arrival,” NSW Ambulance duty operations manager Karl Cronan said.
“Our paramedics took over and did everything they could, working tirelessly to provide lifesaving treatment and resuscitation before transporting her to hospital in critical condition.”
Police are now investigating the cause of death. Mr Cronan said the initial suspicion was the incident was a tragic accident.
“Nobody intends for these tragedies to happen but the thing about accidents – they happen in second – but the impact can remain for a lifetime,” he said.
Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command are now investigating.
